![]() However i've found, atom smashing works wonders for things like refuse and rock blocks. I try to trade/offer all the garbage and crap my fortress produces to any merchant silly enough to come by. I've found using locked doors to independent industrial sections to really simplify everything while seeming to eliminate pathing problems. I also try using burrows as much as possibly but tbh i find them an absolute nightmare to maintain. My hope with both of these is workers will have less pathing to do but I don't have any real proof other than longer lasting fortresses. Similarly, my bedrooms aren't all on one level together but instead i have 8-16 per level. I'm not sure how much of a difference this makes to pathing but I have some sort of dinning section on every level and it seems to help but im probably not being objective. Gathering plants, chopping wood, lot of commands - destroys FPS count. Try to optimise pathing for Dwarfs (make less paths - less decisions to make - less CPU usage - higher FPS) Optimise stockpiles - hauling dips FPS noticeable, use quantum stockpiles. To limit military needs I have recently been building floor by floor flooding capabilities into every design. On serious note: set DF to high prority in task manager. This usually results in having 1 or maybe 2 resource collection floors while the rest are used for production and storage. To this end I use quantum stockpiles that dump to appropriate storage on different levels of the fortress. One of the more design related strategies comes with trying to create a highly efficient fortress that can handle all industries with only about 50-90 workers on hand (military). So all power comes from wind and water is kept up high super pressurized and is available on demand but is not constantly moving through pipes unless it's being used/drained. I make a rule about limiting/eliminating moving and flowing water. ![]() On worldgen I set a very short history usually on 1 or 2 sizes above pocket. The biggest is limiting population I usually set the max pop somewhere between 70-120.
